"Memory Cache Collection 99" is an immersive art installation by Belgian artist Alec De Busschère, presented as part of the 2024 MACS (Grand-Hornu) Extra-muros program in Brussels. The exhibition invited viewers into a labyrinth of large, translucent veils suspended throughout the space, each one printed with enlarged images extracted from computer cache files dating back to 1999. Originally low-resolution and often disconnected from their original context, these images were reimagined by De Busschère into a powerful 'theater of memory.'
This compelling publication, created in collaboration with MACS (Grand-Hornu) and L'Orangerie in Bastogne, offers a curated selection of source material from De Busschère's personal archive, shedding light on the digital remnants that shaped "Memory Cache Collection 99." Through these forgotten fragments, the book uncovers new narratives and invites a deeper reflection on the ephemeral nature of memory in the digital age.
